Farmhouse Home

Methven

Geoff Read Ltd developed the design of this substantial alteration and extension with the client and in sympathy of the 100+ year old home. The original home was extended westward to the rear of the house away from the road to create a large, volumous, open plan space for the new kitchen, scullery, dining and living rooms. Re-lining, insulating and sealing the new and original areas of the home vastly improved thermal efficiency, transforming the home into a comfortable, warm and inviting environment. An attached garage was added to the south of the home and a boiler system was installed to moderate the temperature of the home throughout winter. The original home featured a internal gutter that leaked every time it snowed. Part of the brief was to ensure that this was re-engineered. The internal gutter was removed by installing an additional roof over the internal gutter that sloped to the rear of the home ensuring that snow would not accumulate and lead to future leaking.
